May never find why: With the challenging medical history you have outlined, the cause may never be found. Two questions to ask are whether junior has autoantibodies against his neutrophils, and whether the rises and falls cyclically. The levels to which the neutrophils are falling are probably not dangerous, but more severe neutropenias exist. I wish you both luck.
