Three year old had strep and was on antiobiotic for two days when we did routine blood work. her wbc was 3.8. what would cause this to be low? neutrophils absolute was 0.8 also a little low. what would cause this? rest was normal. retesting today?

Your child could have a viral syndrome with underlying strep carrier. Leukopenia (low total white cell count) with lymphocytosis (high lymphocyte count by percentage) and neutropenia (low neutrophil count) may occur during viral infection. His white cell count and differential should be normalized after the acute illness. Good luck.

3 year old day had routine blood work. Everything was normal except for WBC which was 3.7 (x10e3/uL) and neutrophils absolute .8 and lab range starts at .9. She had started antibiotic for strep throat 3 days prior, would this effect it? Worry?
My neutrophil count, specifically, has continually decreased over several (6) years from 3300 (WBC 6700) to 810 (WBC 3250). I have no symptoms, no infections, and feel healthy. All other blood counts are normal. MCHC slightly low. Possible cause?
