Unlikely : Mris do deliver quite a bit of radiation but i think the dr was trying to discourage you from wanting more, but not in a way i would!

The radiation produced by MRI's isn't the ionizing kind that causes cancer.

This must be a misunderstanding. MRI's don't produce ionizing radiation. Even the radiation from CT scans and ordinary X-rays probably causes only rare cancers; therapeutic radiation in massive doses for cancer cure produces secondary malignancy in only a few percent of cases.

Nonsense: Mris use powerful magnets to harmlessly and temporarily change the orientation of atoms in your tissues. They then use radio waves to visualize the image. The change of atom spin and orientation has no effect on the molecules or their function. The type of radiation that causes cancer is ionizing radiation. You get exposed to that with ct scans, xrays, air travel, etc. But not mris. Fear not.
