Both can happen: Many people report mild dizziness, or a "drugged" feeling, when first starting an ssri like zoloft (sertraline). This usually stops after a day or two, and very often by a week. If it persists or is severe, talk to your doctor. Similar symptoms can happen if zoloft is stopped too suddenly. Note: vertigo is a special kind of dizziness (the room "spins"), & is not as often associated with ssris.
