Not always: There is sometimes dizziness when starting an ssri like zoloft (sertraline). It varies from none at all to a lot, with most patients telling me it's noticeable but mild. There's really nothing to fear in trying it. If you have unpleasant side-effects tell your doctor, who will probably suggest you lower the dose or stop taking it. The dizziness is usually more like lightheadedness, not vertigo.
