Would be rare: Those operations are low risk for pulmonary embolism. If you have a family history of pulmonary embolism, or have had one yourself, or have certain inherited blood disorders that cause a hypercoagulable situation, it would be more likely to happen...But otherwise, you would be at low risk.

DVT: Pulmonary embolus is related to anesthesia and lack of leg circulation during surgery. It can happen with any surgery. It is more common in orthopedic procedures but has been know to happen with all surgical procedures. Make sure that your doctor using leg compression boots during surgery especially if you are on birth control pills. Given your young age you are very unlikely to get dvt.

Unlikely: It is possible to get a clot in a deep vein that leads to pulmonary embolism during any surgery. Yet, at age 18 it is very unlikely. Also, the surgeon can use compression stockings on your legs and other measures to avoid the complication.
