Shortness of breath: A pulmonary embolism can be fatal, but is more often treated successfully. Chest pain that gets worse with deep breathing, shortness of breath and feeling anxious with a rapid pulse are common. Look for blue color of the lips or finger nails for low oxygen. Swollen legs, long travel or lying in bed and some medical conditions can cause this. Call your doctor right away for any of these symptoms.

Pulmonary embolism: There are tests that can test the amount of oxygen in the blood. Unfortunately you can't tell if your about to get a pulmonary embolism (PE) and die, there are conditions that may predispose you to PE. If you have a family history there may be some genetic factors or have been immobile for a very long time this may predispose someone to a PE .

A pulse oximeter: can measure O2 in your body. PE cannot be predicted. If you have a predisposing condition or a family history of blood clots consult your doctor, If this fear is interfering wth your daily life seek counseling.
