Will dentists ever put patients under anesthesia for removing cavities?

Wisdom teeth: Your dentist may provide a IV sedation or local/gas method. Both are common for persons having long oral procedures or anxiety issues.

Anesthesia: If you mean general anesthesia, yes there are some disabilities that preclude using novacaine alone to control movement and cooperation. Most others that require a higher level of sedation during procedures still have protective reflexes present, but are close to being asleep. Therefore there is no fighter to get things done and no memory of the procedure.

Talk to Dentist: Most dental procedures can be done under local anesthesia with a cooperative patient. If there are especially challenging then some sedation might be indicated. It is rare that a full general anesthetic would be needed for dental procedures. If you have concerns please contact your dentist and discuss these fears with him. Good luck.

Unusual: Local anesthetic is usually all that is needed.
