OTC pain relief: Try taking Ibuprofen for the pain 600- 800 mg every 6 hours until you can get to the dentist. Go as soon as possible.

Cover it: If you have pain because food is getting in the cavity then cover it with stuff you can get at the drugstore but if the pain is coming from the infected tooth nerve nothing will help until you see the dentist don't wait.

Temporary relief: While there are self-help temporary kits sold at most pharmacies, first they may not work and secondly sometimes patients do more harm than good trying to use them. My suggestion would be to avoid hot, cold and sweet foods and liquids until you see your dentist, as well as taking advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what you would normally take for a headache. Perhaps see your dentist or another one sooner.
