Yes and no: 1) if the problem is from swollen or overgrown & bulbous gum tissue, then a talented aesthetic dentist or periodontist with a soft tissue laser can perform this aesthetic gingival recontouring. 2) if the problem involves trimming away significant bone support, then at age 41, you may end up with loose teeth which would be detrimental. Talk to your dentist or periodontist to learn about your options.

Passive eruption: Sometimes our gums cover more tooth then they should and make our teeth look short. A perodontist can determine that. It is not common, but it does happen. Have an evaluation.

See a gum specialist: Gum reduction from dilantin, infection, bone pocketing and clenching is a normal procedure to make your teeth appear normal..

Yes: The procedure called crown lengthening . Where the gums can be trimmed to show more of your teeth crowns(enameled) parts to give you a better smile , a dentist or a periodontist would be able to examine you and evaluate your case.
