MaybeBiteTheBullet: Dead skin on the outside can often turn black. That means it's dead. But,of course,if not too extensive, will heal and grow back.In the mouth it turns white(because, unlike on the outside it dries-up,in the mouth it swells with moisture from saliva)To help it heal you need to use a mouthwash and keep brushing all the other teeth. In a few days you may need an antibiotic if not better or getting worse.

See your Dentist: If you are concerned about healing, see your Dentist, an Oral Surgeon, or a Periodontist for examination. In the meantime keep area clean, rinsing w salt water may be beneficial, eat a high protein diet, and avoid irritants (spices, acidic food, alcohol, and especially smoking)
