Safe: As with any procedure an upper GI or endoscopy has it's risks and benefits which should be discussed with your physician. This being said endoscopy is widely performed and very well tolerated. The sedatives used are minimal and safe and the technology has progressed substantially with some centers now offering less invasive nasogastric approaches.
