What's the optimal ointment to take care of insect bites for a 1 year old kid?

Caladryl and/or : Caladryl (any antihistamine containing cream) will help reduce the need to scratch the insect bite. If the bite is open, you would want to put a topical antibiotic cream, such as neosporin, to prevent an infection. To prevent future bites, it is okay to apply insect repellent on, especially in the evenings as this is when most mosquitoes appear.

Depends: If they are not infected, wash with soap and water and then apply Benadryl (diphenhydramine) ointment to the areas. If appear infected do the same but apply an antibiotic ointment and give benadry by mouth.
