Define necessary: Some folks choose to avoid health care professionals & treatments & let life run its course. Strep throat will many times improve without treatment & the complications only strike 1/200 untreated patients. For those who want to avoid complications & not spread the germ to others, office exam & testing are needed along with treatment when confirmed.The choice for an adult is up to them.
