See your doctor!: I can't stress enough to see your/a doctor with this. Sore throat, fever, and chills are symptoms. Diagnosis is by throat culture, and this can be done in a walk-in clinic on the same day. Treatment is with benzathine penicillin/penicillin x 10 days, and it is important to get it within 9 days of onset, before possible acute renal failure that can rarely happen with this disease.

Things to ponder: Strep A, like many other causes of sore throat can "get better" without treatment. However, you could be rolling the dice. Failure to treat with antibiotics within 7-10 days of first symptoms can trigger (1/200) the antibody production that leads to rheumatic fever and associated heart disease. It's a major cause of death in the 3rd world. How much risk are you willing to accept ?
