Back pain and MRI: Not all require surgery. However if the symptoms of pain in legs and burning are due to problems in your back, your orthopedic doctor or primary care doctor can order an MRI to look for conditions that can be treated with surgery . Do not rush to surgery until you have been fully evaluated and you have tried and failed non surgical treatments.

No: Most issues can be treated conservatively. Have you had an MRI done? Physical therapy and targeted injections are just two nonsurgical options.
