Family pract: You have what is called a thrombosed hemorrhoid. There is a blood clot in it. It needs to be lanced an opened up to remove it. Your dr should be able to do it in his office. If not you could be referred to a specialist.

Thrombosed hemorrhoi: External hemorrhoids are generally not overly painful unless they are thrombosed. What you are describing with the bluish appearance is a thrombosed hemorrhoid. Some of these will improve with medical treatment and sitz baths, while others require surgical excision in the office.
