A member asked:

Can an internal hemorrhoid cause black stool? not super foul smelling, just black and bloody with pain around the area of the hemorrhoid. 25 year old male?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Due to breakdown of blood by bacteria in the intestine, the stool can turn black. Blood from any source in the intestine can turn the stool black so you should check with your doctor regarding other possible sources besides hemorrhoids (including AV malformation, polyp, bowel inflammation).
