A member asked:

I have pcos is the medication given (metformin) a medication i will have to take for the rest of my life? or how long is one on the meds?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No one knows: The long term safety of metformin for pcos has not been established, nor is it fda approved for pcos, and it is not a cure. However, as long as it works to control your symptoms and you are being followed by a pcp you should continue it. It helps control blood sugars, lowers testosterone production, slows the growth of abnormal hair, restores ovulation, and may help cholesterol levels and bmi.
