A member asked:

Can diet and exercise be enough to manage and reverse pre-diabetes without medication?

It's possible: Studies have shown that pre-diabetes can be reversed with an intensive diet and exercise program alone (diabetes prevention program). Check here to see if your local ymca offers the program: http://www.Ymca.Net/diabetes-prevention. Or check with your state health department to see if there are other programs in your area.

Manage, yes: Likely you can manage pre-diabetes if sufficient lifestyle changes are made (with 7-10% weight loss)...But if you have some degree of pancreatic dysfunction on top of Insulin resistance due to excess weight, the pancreatic function doesnt go back to normal...So lifelong healthy lifestyle changes are necessary to slow progression.
