A member asked:

If stem cell therapy is not an option for copd today, is there promising research going on? at what time in future might this become a reality?

Stem cells: Stem cells offer promise in many areas where dysfunctional cells are not doing the job. This includes COPD and other areas where cells do not work well. But work is in early research, was put behind many years by theologic based political decisions, and was overhyped by advocates trying to fight the politics. It will be a number of years in the future for success.

Yes: Researchers at brigham women's hospital, ma found that lung stem cells are capable of protecting the lung tissue. In years to come, this may be put to use effectively especially in emphysema than in copd.
