Depends....: Oxygen therapy is helpful only if the person's oxygen level in their blood is low. Then, oxygen is prescribed in the lowest dose possible to bring the oxygen level back up. Too much oxygen can actually cause lung damage so it is vital that the supplemental oxygen is prescribed and adjusted by a physician.

No: Oxygen therapy is not a "cure" or fix of problems in the lungs. But, if you need oxygen and you do not use it, then you may cause damage to other organs including the heart. The use of oxygen will also allow you to do more things that otherwise, you would not be able due to dyspnea. Oxygen doesn't fix problems, but if you donn't use it you may develop other problems and you will be more limited.
