Toenail: Sounds like blood under the nail called subungual hematoma and don't need to hit it on something. A tight shoe can cause it. Always best to have it looked at.

Sub Unual Hematoma: Your nail problem sounds like a condition we refer to as a "sub ungual hematoma" or a blood clot under the nail. This occurs due to pressure either from the shoe, walking or running-exercise. The blleding under the nail can cause pressure and discomfort. In some cases the blood need to be released. In some cases the nail may become loose off the plate, and this can cause discomfort.
