Temp fix swollen : Usually i recommend nsaids, i.e... Advil, (ibuprofen) alleve, Ibuprofen , aspirin, Motrin . These will help relieve pain and reduce swelling. However, this is just to buy you time until you can get to the dentist. If you have hard time breathing due the swelling go the emergency room right away. Your dentist may prescribe some antibiotics after you are seen, or before he/she can treat the problem.

Temporary relief: Assuming they can take Aspirin or Ibuprofen either will have a local and central effect in decreasing pain..Oil of cloves on cotton can reduce pain when applied to the tooth..Be careful because it can burn the tissues around the tooth.Infection or swelling is the symptom that demands immediate attention to reduce the spread as quickly as possible.Call your dentist today chuck.

ICE, SALT WATER: Until your friend can see the dentist, try using ice packs to decrease the swelling, as well as salwater rinses to help the inflammed gum tissue. Finally, over the counter medicine like advil or tylenol (acetaminophen) is helpful for pain. Keep you activity light, and your foods soft. Keep smiling!
