Family practice : It is usually due to a hormonal imbalance. A Progesterone shot or several months of both control would get you regulated.

Maybe: This is kind of strange! the tubal and the abstinence have nothing to do with your period irregularity (except to say that it's not pregnancy). A major weight change could explain it (major obese makes polycystic ovaries; skin & bones stops periods). Medicines or major stress could change the pattern of your period. You may need to sort this one out with your fp to get closer to the answer...
