Priorities should be: The most important criteria for success is the skill and experience of your periodontist, your home care and following instructions, not to mention your age and general health, medical conditions, etc. Find the periodontist whom you trust and have confidence in, and then discuss the options. Be guided less by the materials used and leave it up to your surgeon.

Choose professional: Choose the best profession for the best care. They can review the risks, benefits and alternatives prior to choosing a path. Choosing a specific type of treatment over the professional is like picking a plumber by the wrench he uses.

Gingival graft: Using your own tissue is usually the best option, but comes with some post-op pain or soreness. Alloderm can work well with the right surgeon. Ask the periodontist for their opinion.

Grafting from palate: Grafting from the palate has been a tried and true procedure. Laterally repositioned flaps also work. However, not all grafts are successful, if the tissue pull and occlusal trauma or old habit still exisits.
