Grinding Teeth: Grinding of teeth, usually at night, is a common problem called bruxism. Most of this happens unconsciously while you are sleeping and thus is hard to control. The best treatment is a bite plate (like a football tooth guard) which a dentist can make for you. The effects of chronic grinding is to wear down the surface of the teeth which is easily seen on exam.

Grinding teeth: Bruxism (grinding one's teeth) is sometimes helped by a magnesium supplement. Check with your pcp to make sure that won't interfere with your current med regimen. (if you're on a water pill, magnesium may help maintain potassium levels). An orthodontist can examine your teeth & perhaps prescribe an appliance to be worn during times when you grind teeth the most.
