You can't: Make a child sleep. The more you try the worse it becomes, assuming that he is healthy. Sleep is a natural process of course, but a 9 month old is defying you as part of his search for independence. You must try to indicate kindly and without any sign of frustration that sleeping is his choice, not yours.

Sleep: Also try finding something such as a toy or blanket that is comforting to the child. This will help him/her be comfortable sleeping without you. A sound machine that also plays music can help soothe the child when trying to sleep.
