Galactosemia: Cataract, a clouding of the lens, is common in babies born with galactosemia, the inability to break down galactose, a form of sugar found in milk products. Treatment is a galactose-free (no dairy) diet. Anything with milk, butter, cheese, whey or casein in the ingredients must be eliminated. Breast feeding is out too. Follow-up with a pediatrician and a pediatric ophthalmologist.
