Not really: Allopurinol is a life long therapy. Stay on it. There is no natural substitute.

If it ain't broke...: Despite the common advice about diet restrictions, most gout sufferers cannot control the disease with diet alone and no "natural" methods have been scientifically proven. If you have done well for 40 years, no need to rock the boat!

Not that I know of: However, if not done, need to cut down on uric acid intake i.e. No beer, cut down red meat, no caffeine, and search your meds for a cause. Sometimes it is a medicine like long term htcz (hydrochlorothiazide). Also, kidney disease increases chances of gout.
