Infection in cyst: If your son has a swollen thyroglossal cyst it is because bacteria have found their way into the cyst and caused an infection. An antibiotic can help eliminate the bacteria, so the swelling goes down. However as soon as another bacteria comes along the process starts over and the swelling reoccurs. The solution may be to have the cyst removed. An ear, nose ; throat specialist can help guide you.
