Strep throat: If after taking Amoxicillin for 3 days and your throat is still sore, you have more going on than just strep. If you develop cold like symptoms, you have a viral upper respiratory infection. Good chance you were colonized with Strep and it was not the cause of the sore throat from the start. Strep throats do not lead to cough and nasal congestion.

Should be better.: Hello! After 3 days of treatment, you should be getting a little better. It is possible that you have a resistant strain of strep and that you need a different antibiotic. It is also possible that you have something else going on as well - usually strep infections do not cause a cough. I would recommend that you get in to be seen for reevaluation. Good luck and get better!

Give it 72 hours...: If your fever persists beyond 72 hours from the first dose of the antibiotic I would go back to your physician to be reevaluated. The soreness and swelling can take longer to go away as it takes time for your body to heal. If you have noticed an increase in your symptoms, please contact your doctor now.

Antibiotics: like amoxicillin only help bacterial infections. Depending on how the diagnosis was made, you may not have a strep infection (caused by the streptococcal bacteria). It's much more likely in a 30 year old male that the infection is caused by a virus, which will not get better with amoxicillin or any antibiotic. Discuss this further with your physician, especially if you feel you are getting worse.
