What is the clicking problem in my neck?

Neck Clicking: This is a relatively common complaint and a more thorough history and physical exam including an neck and chest X-ray should be obtained first. It most likely is related to the cervical spine and vertebrae. It can be normal or a sign of arthritis or other bony condition.

Joint Movement: The bones of the neck move to allow us to move our head around. Thus is made possible by articular surfaces. As we age these surfaces can wear down, or be altered by arthritic changes. Unless you are being bothered by neck pain, numbness, tingling or weakness, the sounds can be left alone. If symptoms get worse you can see a spine doctor.
