Many things: If you are taking your pulse and feel pauses of 2 seconds or more, you need to see your doctor! you might need a heart rhythm monitor you wear for a day or so.

Depends.: It depends upon the length of ones pauses during asystole. This can readily be determined with a 24 hour holter monitor test and a careful evaluation by a cardiologist.
