A member asked:

How long does food stay in the stomach for on average?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A few hours: Generally, about 50% of the food that you eat is out of the stomach into the small intestine within 90 minutes of when eaten. All food should be gone within a few hours. Gastric emptying could be measured with a nuclear medicine test. Diabetics typically have delayed gastric emptying, called gastroparesis. However, this condition can be seen after a viral infection or other unknown causes.
