Need maintenance med: Prednisolone is a steroid, and you are right, steroids have lots of harmful side effects. You need to be in a regular maintenance medication for uc. See your gastroenterologist to find the right med for you. Mesalamine often works for mild uc, azathuoprine for moderate to severe uc. Nether have as many side effects as steroids. It is very important to taper steroids and not stop them abruptly.
