Pre-cancerous: Villous lesions in the colon are considered pre-cancerous and your doctor is correct in advising resection of the lesion.

Villous adenoma: You underwent a colonoscopy at 50 years of age and this is important. The findings of a villous adenoma is a flat type of polyp. 1/3 of these may contain cancer in them thus the reason for your doctor recommending surgery. It can be done minimally invasive. The pathologist will evaluate the mass. A second opinion is always good for peace of mind.
