Tonsillolith: If the white material on your tonsil was solid, it wasn't active pus, but was a tonsillolith or tonsil stone. They are common and can cause sore throat. You can express or scrape them off. Better to gargle regularly to get them off. Some people ultimately get their tonsils out, but that's only if the pain persists and the tonsil stones don't get any better.
