Follow-up: There are many causes of exudative pharyngitis (sort throat, white spots on tonsils). One common cause is strep throat. If this were strep throat, your son should be better. Several viruses that can also cause exudative pharyngitis. Occasionally, pharyngitis may be associated with an abscess that may not be effectively treated with oral antibiotics. You should call your doctor for follow-up.
