No anesthesia?: While I have had some patients endure the discomfort when drilling and filling cavities, getting a wisdom tooth pulled without any anesthesia would be painful imho. Discuss your preferences with your dentist. If numbing is extra, then save the money and do the work when you can afford the local anesthesic.

Ouch!: For a very small pinpoint decay, drilling might hurt no worse than the injection so that's something to ask about. I have extracted extremely loose baby teeth with only gel & once removed an extremely loose adult tooth with numbing gel at her request. The patient did fine but my assistant passed out at the thought of it! i'd refuse to do it on a wisdom tooth without numbing first.

Discuss with Dentist: This question would be one for your dentist. The ability to do this would depend greatly on your tolerance for pain. Personally i couldn't do it.

No anesthesia?!: Put simply, it would be intolerable and for which there'd be no reason to suffer. While drilling would be very uncomfortable, especially for wisdom teeth, the pain would be something you'd likely not tolerate

Alot for most people: Having any tooth removed without anesthesia would be a very unpleasant experience for most people. However, there are patients who state that they cannot have any type of local anesthetic or refuse to have local anesthesia for any dental procedure, including extractions. I have removed teeth in several patients who did not want or refused any type of anesthetic, and they did surprisingly well.

Too much: The anesthesia helps you not move during rx, reducing risk of injury. It prevents pain, and there are lots of studies that show people heal faster if they can control pain. To have surgery (dental or medical) done without anesthesia is barbaric.

That depends: Pulling a wisdom tooth without anesthesia would be intolerable to most people. Having a small cavity drilled with out anesthesia is no problem. For medium and large sized cavities again most people would find it intolerable. Discuss your concerns with your doctor.
