Is cirrhosis of the liver considered very serious?

Extremely: Unless the cause is identified and can be treated, or a transplant is available, it will eventually kill the owner of the liver. And the process will not be pleasant. If this is someone you love and he/she refuses to stop drinking, there is nothing more you can do. Best wishes.
