Are bulging lumbar discs and rectal spasms usually connected?

Not usually: In the lumbar spine area the spinal cord is already separated into individual nerves that can move out of the way when a disc herniates. While the s3 nerve that goes to the rectum and sphincter muscle area can be pressed it is unusual.
