A member asked:

Tell me if depression lead to a social phobia and/or anxiety disorder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes and No: Although anxiety and depression commonly co-occur, depression will only lead to social phobia if the individual has a predisposition to develop social phobia to begin with (genetics, psychological vulnerability, shyness as a trait, etc). The best evidence for depression and anxiety is generalized anxiety disorder, which shares more in common with depression than any other anxiety disorder.
