A member asked:

How can depression/social anxiety medication work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Exact Method Unknown: To this day no one knows exactly how medications for depression and social anxiety work. A common theory is an overall deficiency in certain neurotransmitters, especially serotonin and norepinephrine, cause the symptoms. The medications act to elevate the neurotransmitter levels and reduce symptoms. Other medications tend to calm overall brain activity. Much hard work and research lies ahead.
