A member asked:

Does it happen that people get surgery like a lung replacement or something and get rid of asthma?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Or something...: Asthma can in most cases be treated with mild medications that have few side effects. Suppressing the inflammation that causes the symptoms is key. Lung transplant is a major procedure and is usually reserved for diseases much less treatable than asthma, like pulmonary fibrosis or cystic fibrosis. If you're having symptoms, talk to your doc. Most patients do very well with a little medication.
