short of breath: Talk to your dr. About your symptoms. Metoprolol usually wouldn't cause sob. Not much information here, your dr. Can advise you far better.

Possible: It sometimes gives that sensation being sob. But i would suggest to get evaluation before blaming to any drug. It should not be stopped without discussing with cardiologist.
