Being depressed is: Normal in most people and is a temporary, non-debilitating reaction, usually to a negative event. Having depression implies being depressed for at least two weeks and it being intense enough to cause some dysfunction in eating, sleeping, thinking, concentrating, enjoying things, or feeling good about yourself or life. It's a matter of intensity, duration & consequences.
