Depression can be : A reaction to a bad situation or a chronic condition unrelated to anything specific in your life. It can be a continual, low-level condition, or it can be more severe & be off and on. It can be seasonal. It can be combined with manic periods. It can be a result of medications, drugs, or certain medical conditions. They all have various names but common symptoms described in other answers.
