Dentist first: The main criteria is- what kind of dental work? Not much of an issue for fillings. It’s mostly an issue for extractions, surgery, and perhaps periodontal (gum) treatment. The second criteria are concerns with any heart issues and not only blood thinning medications. It is important that your dad's dentist know his entire medical history and consult with his md.

Anti coagulation: He should discuss it with both. You need to know the nature of the dental work from the dentist, then discuss whether anti coagulation regimen should be altered with his medical provider.

Both: His dentist needs to know your father's medications so that he can be treated properly. If the anticoagulants need to be stopped, then your father's physician needs to coordinate with the dentist to help prevent complications. All the best..

Both: Both shouod be consulted for the best result and decreased risk. Many different opinions on this subject but all agree to know the bleeding time and other lab tests before any surgery. Non invasive surgery where little bleeding is likely is usually low risk but can result in more bruising... Chuck.
