Amoxicillin: Usually Amoxicillin is prescribed for 10 to 14 days for an infection like that. If you feel that it is not helping at all you should contact your doctor and possibly change to a stronger antibiotic or just continue your therapy as it may take a bit longer for the antibiotics to works on severe infections.

May be other factors: People can have a viral infection and or mono and test positive for strep at the same time. Strep are universally killed by the penicillin group of abx while occasional resistance to erythromycin/zithromax have been reported. If you have a dual infection chenging abx won't help. If on a penicillin drug, you need to complete it.
